PSE&G: Vegetation Management

Unlike the power lines you see next to your local roads, transmission lines are typically constructed on large metal poles or towers located within the Rights-of-Way (ROW) on PSE&G easements and company owned land. The ROW is divided into two zones: wire and border. As required by federal and state regulations, PSE&G proactively manages the vegetation in these zones to reduce hazards and maintain reliability.
PSE&G’s Vegetation Management Plan has been developed in compliance with applicable regulations and follows established industry standards and best management practices. New Jersey regulation N.J.A.C. 14:5-9 includes the following required vegetation management practices:
*Removing woody vegetation that can exceed a height of three feet within the wire zone.
*Clearing vegetation under transmission lines so that vegetation will not grow or fall into the transmission lines.
*Removing invasive and non-indigenous plant species posing a threat to maintenance of the ROW or a hazard to electrical transmission conductors.
*Permitting only grass vegetation to grow within three feet of any structure.
*Complying with soil erosion control requirements of the local soil conservation district, when applicable.
A list of generally compatible vegetation species is available on our website. Compatibility of vegetation within the ROW is dependent on site-specific conditions and only authorized PSE&G vegetation management personnel can make that determination. Please contact PSE&G before planting anywhere within the ROW.

This was just sent to my home and I think it is important to share with everyone before they start Spring plantings.
